I have tasted many different kind of Spaghetti Bolognese Recipes, but honestly its the traditional Bolognese recipe that will always be my favorite.
I learned this recipe from my Italian house mate during my collage days, and he once also mentioned that- out of all the Spaghetti Bolognese Recipes this is actually the healthiest – as it does not use any bacon oil during preparation.
This dish is one of my staples, and i truly enjoy making it as much as i enjoy eating it.
) Spaghetti (1 pack) ready made
) Ground beef (lean) (1 pound)
) Crushed tomatoes (2 cans)
) Tomato paste (2 tablespoons)
) Olive oil (2 tablespoons)
) Onion (1 large), finely chopped
) Dried basil (1 teaspoon)
) Dried oregano (1 teaspoon)
) Crushed red pepper flakes (1 teaspoon)
) Garlic (3cloves), minced
) Salt & Pepper to taste
) [OPTIONAL] basil leafs 5 to 10 leafs
) [OPTIONAL] ¼ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
STEP 1: Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a rolling boil.
STEP 2: Cook the spaghetti in the boiling water until cooked properly (approx 12 minutes) (it should be firm to hold but yet a little soft when you bite it)
STEP 3: Scoop out 1 cup of spaghetti water and set it aside
STEP 4: Drain out the pasta and set aside
STEP 5: Heat the olive oil in a large pan over medium heat
STEP 6: Add the ground beef, salt & pepper and fry till the beef is 70% cooked
STEP 7: Add the onions, garlic, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes and cook for about 2 minutes making sure that its still simmering while cooking
STEP 8: Add the caned crushed tomatoes, tomato paste & the cup of spaghetti water from STEP 3 – and give it a good mix
STEP 9: Cover the pot and let cook for about 10 minutes ( it is important to make sure the sauce doesn’t dry up)
STEP 10: Add some spaghetti to a bowl, pour 2 large scoops of Bolognese over the spaghetti
STEP 11:[OPTIONAL] Garnish with Basil & Parmesan cheese
Volaaaaa…………Your traditional Spaghetti Bolognese is READY TO EAT !!
